Most of us love getting jewelry, but do you really know what your prized possessions are doing to the environment? After watching a guilt inducing episode of Eco Trip: the Real Cost of Living on Sundance, and I must say, after seeing how gold mines work, you wont find me buying anything new, even down to my wedding ring which is a vintage piece. Not only do most companies leave these massive holes in the Earth, each pit is leaking extremely toxic fumes into surrounding environments.
While searching for recycled gold rings, I stumbled upon Green Carat, an environmental responsible company, with not only rings but a whole section of “Responsible Indulgences”. Most of their products are post consumer recycled and each are beautifully hand crafted. And, if you have an idea you would like see come alive, they also do custom pieces. Have jewelry you never use and would like to donate to a good cause, send it over to Green Carat to be transformed into something beautiful!
