With the long three day weekend we just had, and thanks to great weather, the fiance and I jumped on our scooter and hit up some fun and free 4th of July activities. And of course, our camera came along and we got some great local photos! Our first stop was the annual Venice Duck Race. With races for adults and kids, this was a fun family affair, and the walk along the canals was perfect. A few shots from the race…
After the races, it was off to the beach, only to find it insanely crowded and full of police. So off to LACMA we went for a free concert in the park courtesy of the Latin Sounds summer concert series. I would highly recommend stopping by! Each Saturday throughout August, the museum will be hosting a series of concerts right on their grounds and its totally free! We brought some food, drinks and a blanket and had a relaxing evening grooving to Luis Conte and Cuba L.A. While there, be sure to checkout the colorful displays in the main courtyard. Now till September 20th, artists from South Korea will be on display, with the pop art instillations from Choi Jeong-Hwa currently viewable for free. Walking up, to Happy Happy (with a title like that how can you not like it!) it looks more like a cluster of color, until you get close and realize the entire thing has been made up of colorful plastic!
Also on display is Welcome a collection of fabric stretched across the buildings and an interactive instillation on the lawn where the artist has encouraged everyone to participate and add your own plastic piece to a cyclone fence.
And that was all in one day! What did you do with your 3 day weekend?
