So now that winter is upon us, well sort of in Southern California, I have broken out the old votives and started lighting at around 4 pm!  Seriously, its pitch black here by 5.  Candles are such a great way to bring in light, and everything looks good in candle light.  Made an average dinner?  Throw some candles on the table and it instantly looks like a 5 star meal.  They can instantly give an area a warm glow and make everything incredibly inviting.  So with that, I took to my favorite sites and found all kinds of holders, ranging in sizes, shapes, colors and prices.  Best deal, check out number 5, its a whole 95 cents!  And now that the holidays are coming, they are the perfect accessory for any tabletop or cluster them together for a focal point, just stay away from the scented ones, especially if you are cooking!!

So a few weeks ago, I asked a good friend who is a lighting designer to point me in a good direction for some uber cool lighting and yesterday she sent me this little gem.

Located in Teruel Spain, the Torico Square is known for being a tourist attraction (after seeing these pictures, I would love to see this in person!) with its amazing architecture and historical elements.  So when the city went to b720 Arquitectos for a new and contemporary addition to their lighting and paving systems, who would have thought this would be the result! Designed using 1230 LEDs, night time has become one of the most popular times to visit.  Each prefabricated luminary measures in between 18-30 inches and is recessed into granite pavers and covered in tempered glass.  In addition to the LEDs on the ground, they were also added to the facades giving off a glowing hue.  One of the main problems b720 claimed for historical buildings is that they are always way too bright.  Overall, this place looks amazing, just gives me anther reason to put Spain on the list of must sees, aside from my obsession with Gaudi!

Have you stopped by Jonathan Adler lately?  I stopped by earlier in the week, and there are just so many fun new items!  I am loving all the stark white accessories, and LOVE the pops of color!  And you know, sometimes designing a regular home is just not enough, also introduced in the new collection is the Barbie accessories.  I was never into Barbie when I was little, always opted for outdoor activities instead, but some of those bright pink accessories are just too cute!  Just a few things that caught my eye:

Its Monday, and boy am I having a heard time getting going!  I’ll just blame it on the lack of sunshine and the drilling and sawing in my front porch that has been going on for weeks.  Although I am super excited to finally have a fenced in front porch!  Anyway, back to the blog.  I took a virtual spin over at West Elm, and if you haven’t checked out their site lately, do stop by.  They are having tons of summer sales and are introducing many new products.  A few from their site that not only caught my eye but are pretty nice to the wallet as well.

First up are these cute little animal figurines.  Perhaps its my lack of pet these days, but I am loving little additions like these for shelves and little nooks.  The Sheesham Birds are made from well, sheesham and come in two sizes, perfect for little additions in any room.  The Narrative Animals are a little more animal like in shape but have a touch of irony.  White figures with funny decals really make the look, available are a rabbit and top hat, a squirrel and nut and a tortoise with a hare.

Moving over to all things glass, I am loving these Gourd Table Lamps and Hurricane Lanterns.  Perfect for tabletops, these will be sure to add some shine and light to any room.  The gourd lamps come in either a clear of charcoal tint and come with a natural linen shade.  The hurricane lanterns are a perfect accessory for an outdoor table or casual dinners inside.  Made from glass and iron, these are a delicate yet sturdy addition.

One of the most common questions I get asked is how to make a big impact on a small budget for bedrooms.  I am a fond believer that a headboard can make or break a room, and I am loving these two for modern rooms.  On the left, a Metal-Inlay headboard and the right is the Random Cutout headboard.  Each would give your room a new focal point and a place to rest all those pillows against!

Knitted light

As usual, I love to see products that have a great function and are a little quirky, and the Matt lamp from Llot Llov is a great mix of the two.  The idea, allow the user to not only have light but also add a little fun to an everyday product. With a environmentally friendly bulb and a knitted cord this little light could be hours of fun and function.  Designed to be moved around and completely bendable, the cord just adds a little something.  Plus its so much nicer to look at then those long wires that stick out from every electric item.  I can just see it now, someone getting a little too excited about the lamp and twirling it overhead lasso style!  If only I could get a couple of these for my place!

Oh how I wish I could speak different languages…. 2 years of high school spanish, and what I could piece together from my family can only get you just so far, and in this case, doesn’t help at all.  The Zek Crew out of Ljubliana, Slovenia, a group of people producing conceptual visual interventions sure do come up with some crazy ideas.  Designed for the Light Guerilla competition and chosen to be 1 of 25 on display, these recycled spray can pendants sure are something.  If you have a minute, be sure to check out their about video… loving the dancing!
