Time for some Etsy Top 3 Tuesday, and boy did I need it.  The husband has been home sick for 4 days now, and its getting harder and harder to stay productive when you have a sick guy on the couch!  So, some time spent wondering aimlessly on Etsy was the perfect way for me to get back to normal.  Today I focused on all things local, to me.  Each shop is located in L.A and are filled with fun finds.

First up are the amazing photographs from artist and commercial photographer Sharon Montrose.  If you are an animal lover, you simply must check out her shop, and blog!  Back when I was a wee little one, my dream job was to be an animal trainer, although what 8 year old girl didn’t want to work with animals??  Each animal is real, and most are housed in a local private California zoo.  These are perfect for framing and would make for a lovely gift, hint hint.  I was in love with every animal, just look at that adorable little porcupine, then I stopped by her blog.  Whoa. Her puppy shots make me all kinds of giddy! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

After all the animals, I cruised on over to EfiaFair, where all things are warm and fuzzy.   Even though a winter in L.A consists of temperatures close to 70, a girl can never have too many scarves.  I just love yarn, and have a small obsession with knitting, and these little lovelies from EfiaFair were just calling my name. Mixing in a little fun, a little practicality and a whole lot of warmth, these accessories are perfect for our fall/winter weather.  See something you like, but would work way better for you in a different color?  Custom orders are also available!  I would so rock those gloves with bows any day. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

And last but not least, for all of you out there like me that have a certain problem with dropping our phones and iPods do check out the wares over at Sea Side Sew.  I don’t know how many times I have dropped my phone, some have been rather interesting too, including the time I tried to buckle my seat belt with phone in hand.  It went sailing right out the window and under my car!  If only I had one of these cases, the phone probably would have made it.  So for all you iPhone carriers, wrap it up!  And, most are even water resistant… although Im not sure how it would stand up to, say a nice dunk in a toilet!  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Has anyone else started to notice a rise in deserted blogs?  There is nothing worse, or sadder then going to your bookmarks, picking out a good blog only to get that dreaded post, something a little like “With a sad heart, I will no longer be posting…”.  What’s going on guys?

And with that, as always, I wanted to bring you a little humor, because well, thats what my blog is here for.  My amusement and ramblings, sometimes Im funny and a little nerdy, but its me.  And besides, how else can you be happy in a designed world if your not having fun?  And that’s when I was introduced to The Nonist and its great public service pamphlet.  Sadly, it too has run its course and is no longer being written.

I just love Parasol, if you haven’t checked it out, boy are you missing out!  Add in some crafting ideas, interviews and lovely photos and I am all kinds of happy.  Even on this dark and dreary Monday morning!  Last month, I told you about the first ever Parasol Craft, which I purchased for a whopping 2.50 (what else can you spend that little on and come out with tons of great findings?) and just loved.  This month, a whole new Craft, issue 2 is up  for your viewing pleasure.  So what kinds of things can you find?  Aside from some amazingly candid interviews, a few adorable downloads and even 2 giveaways, this issue is filled with so many inspiring artists and ideas!  So  what are you waiting for, go check it out already!

A true believer in things should always look nice, when it comes to wrapping or mailing a package, the design just always seems to fall flat.  Yes, the paper gets ripped off and thrown away, but given to someone who appreciates a pretty little package, its all in the details.  I was so excited when I found out about Uguisu Shoten, an online shop for Japanese designs.  Their main specialty, tape.  Adding tape to a package can really make a difference and surprisingly, tape can be used in hundreds of ways.  Hiki, the master mind behind it all has a great eye and brings together a fun crafty collection and gives some great ways to use the products on her blog, Jollygoo.

Along with all the tape fun, Uguisu also carries some fun stamps and kitchen linens.  A few that I wouldn’t mind adding to my rapid growing collection. 1. Birdcage Porcelain Hanko Stamp, 2. Clock Stamp!, 3. Giraffe, 4. Fog Linen Works kitchen cloth and 5. Happy Blue Bird dishcloth.

Its been quite a while since I have done a poll around here, so why not today.  On one of my blog reading tangents I stumbled upon the i-Bum by interactive designer Tomomi Sayuda.  My first thought, um, why.  My second thought, okay, this could be interesting but a little peeping tom-ish.  According to Sayuda, “the arse is the window of the soul” and the focus of the project was to show a visual of a “less popular” part of our body without really being noticed, although, I think if I sat on a chair and heard something moving under my butt, I’m not too sure how understanding I would be!  A sensor detects when someone sits and automatically creates a scan of their backside which is then produced from the side of the chair.  Overall, could be a fun art project, but as far as an actual chair, well, what do you think!?  Be sure to check out the rest of Sayuda’s work, this guy really thinks outside of the box to create an artistic world… I love when that happens!
